Good morning! 🌤️

I’m excited to share news of a significant victory.

My community is in the midst of a grassroots revolution, aiming to place Housing in the hands of people instead of Wall Street and predatory landlords.

The struggle for Community-Owned Housing is like a decades-long war.

Our victory last Saturday was the equivalent of The American Revolution’s Battle of Trenton, a small but pivotal victory for Washington’s underdog Continental Army.

Let’s get into battle ⬇️

George Washington, Donald Trump and Red’s Housing Revolution 🕊️

On a freezing cold Christmas night in 1776, General George Washington faced a crossroads of uncertainty.

His Continental Army was recovering from several defeats in New York, forced to retreat to Pennsylvania.

Morale was at an all-time low, with soldiers deserting by the minute.

Not many outside of General Washington still believed in the idea of America at all – even he expressed doubts, writing to his cousin in Virginia, "I think the game is pretty near up.”

The revolutionary cause was on the brink of collapse.

Back to Christmas Night.

Washington carefully examined his choices.

Were he to continue the fight, he could lose the faith of his men and continue to suffer needless loss of life.

Staying put in their current position would almost certainly decentralize the Continental Army, ensuring a British victory.

This moment was do-or-die.

When there is a will, there is a way.

Following a gut-impulse to fight on, Washington flung a Hail Mary of a decision in the dead of night.

He and 2,400 of his men ventured across the dangerously icy Delaware River, advancing towards enemies stationed in Trenton, New Jersey.

Washington's forces caught them off-guard, and after a short but fierce resistance, most of the British troops surrendered and were captured.

Gotcha!

Despite the battle's small numbers, the victory shattered the perception of British invincibility.

After weeks of doubt and devastation, belief in the revolution had been a lost cause.

The Battle of Trenton proved that the revolution was still alive, generating freshly-inspired patriots of the newly-formed United States.

My cause of community-ownership is akin to Washington’s belief in liberty. My belief in the idea of Housing Freedom is much like his vision of America.

Just as Washington’s small victory reignited the Revolutionary War, our Rally for Housing Freedom has injected new energy, visibility, and momentum into the movement for tenant power in New York.

Our coalition of tenants, organizers, and politicians once stood against a seemingly unstoppable force — the Real Estate Lobby and the political establishment.

We aren’t fighting for freedom against King George III like the Patriots did, but we are going against President Donald Trump and his pro-establishment administration.

Trump is the final boss of this revolution. Don’t forget that predatory real estate is how he got here.

We won a small battle last Saturday in a war that will continue for decades.

The next phase of our plan is to advance our cause to higher levels of visibility and manpower. Then, we infiltrate and we build.

If you believe in our cause, just keep reading and supporting.

If you are moved to take action like the thousands of patriots following the victory at Trenton, reply to this email, and we’ll suit you up for battle.

Like Washington’s troops, we aren’t done fighting.

If nothing else, we will be sure to keep our eyes on the prize.

We will certainly never stop believing.

Similar to Washington’s three-direction attack, we aim to dominate through policy, media and organizing. This newsletter is the main body of the Housing Freedom Army.

We are slowly-but-surely advancing towards Freedom.

I want you to listen to my closing remarks from Saturday’s Rally for Housing Freedom.

My speech encompasses the passion I hold for my people and my unwavering belief in the cause of community-ownership.

This fight includes you, too – 70% of New Yorkers are renters, and more across the country will enter the renting class over the coming years.

This means: Housing Freedom is in the interests of most Americans for decades to come 🚨

As you may have heard me say, Housing is the foundation of Health and human life.

If you care anything about your health and how you live, you should care about living with Housing Freedom.

If you care about the wellbeing of your family, your neighbors and your community, you should care deeply about secure housing.

Who better to ensure their safekeeping than you?

You and your people can be organized, just like we are. Strength in numbers.

These are the basic principles of decent living I express in this newsletter and in my speech last week.

The ideas should just make sense to you, especially if you prefer the right side of the below graphic as opposed to the left

I hope you are inspired! 🕊️
