Mom, I Think I Have Spidey Senses 😳
Plus, what's the 'Alexander Technique'?

Down w/ Energy Dynamics?🧬
If you’ve ever met me or heard me speak, you know I talk in big ideas.
I articulate the things that everybody feels and understands but doesn’t always say out loud.
One of these things is energy dynamics.
You know when someone pulls out their phone during a conversation or reaches for their drink, and you suddenly have the urge to do the same thing?
Yeah, that’s energy dynamics.
The concept involves several familiar ideas: chi, karma, intuition, flow, vibes, spidey sense, etc.

When someone is saying all the right things, but it just doesn’t sit right with you …
Energy dynamics happen almost exclusively in group settings.
When everyone feels fully in sync, there’s a seamless give-and-take of energy, ideas, and attention. We call this social flow.
One key to social flow is entrainment, where people’s bodies and brains operate on the same wavelength.
You’ve probably noticed how, when people are deeply engaged in a conversation, their breathing patterns, body language, and even heart rates match up. And when one thing is off, the whole thing comes toppling down …

“We locked in” has a whole new meaning.
Concepts like social flow, energy dynamics, and entrainment have evolved over millennia to support our development as social creatures.
The seemingly small nuances of our interactions shape our civilizations and have driven the success of our species.
Luckily, all we need to do is relax, flow, and be ourselves.
I could talk to a wall all day about these things, but luckily I found a friend who enjoys the discussion equally.
Her name is Alanna, and she’ll be my new cohost on the Down to Earth podcast.
She’s wicked smaht and a great person, so expect to become a fan as you hear more from us.

The bad news: you’ve probably been living your entire life with poor posture and movement habits.
The good news: it’s unbelievably simple to correct them.

We’re designed to sit and stand in a very specific way.
In just one hour, I’ve corrected how I sit, speak, sing, throw, jump, sleep, kick, punch, and stand up.
I feel entirely different, and it’s thanks to this one technique I’ve picked up.
As you can probably guess by the title of this post, I’m referencing the revolutionary Alexander Technique.
The Alexander Technique is a form of self-help that allows you to discover habits of held tension.
It gives you tools to both release this tension and prevent it from causing further harm or discomfort.

I’ll wager that you hold tension somewhere in your body, even as you read this post!
So, you’ve experienced knee pain or lower back discomfort, right?
What about a creaky neck or tight hips?
Let me guess – you tried to pinpoint that discomfort, isolating it from the rest of your body to no avail.
A better solution is the all-in-one approach of The Alexander Techinique, which aims for overall restoration of your poise.

If different parts of your car are messing up, the issue is much deeper than the surface.
Poise, Not Posture
This poise has wonderful benefits for your overall psychological, physical, and emotional well-being and can be experienced by anyone with a curious attitude.
That’s because your nervous system is designed the same as mine.
Our minds are all different, yes, but we all share a blueprint that makes us operate exactly the same.

Here’s a good example of upright poise. It’s not a posture, it’s general POISE.
Relax your neck!
That means there’s an ‘ideal’ way to move through the world.
You might think that the rulebook for ‘ideal’ movement is as long as an encyclopedia and that it’ll take years to learn.
Nope! ‘Ideal’ movement takes just a few minutes a day to master, and the rulebook can be boiled down to one sentence: The head leads, and the body follows.
This means that your head acts as the control center of your body, (duh, it’s where your brain is at) and initiates all the movements you make.
Your head and neck are like the joystick that moves you around.
You don’t want that joystick to be jammed, right? Keep it loose and limber.
Don’t think about it too hard. I know it’s a lot to take in, but learning this can sincerely improve your overall well-being.
Just focus on relaxing your neck and head, and reducing stiff, tense movements.
I highly recommend you check out AT instructor John Dalto’s Substack.
Every week, he guides you closer to total wellness using anatomy, visual aids and powerful metaphors that will reshape your body and mind.
His writing inspires me to think out of the box with health and self-improvement.
Plus, his emails serve as a reminder to relax that neck and remain poised.
After practicing the Alexander Technique, you can expect significant decreases in joint pain, headaches, muscle spasms, and a greater sense of internal quiet.
Isn’t that what we’re all looking for anyway?
